This registry holds 1,576 US data center and crypto mining sites on the public record as of September 14, 2026: 745 operating, 241 under construction, 109 permitted, 391 proposed and 90 cancelled. It counts campuses and named facilities with a public source, not every leased suite in an office building, so it is a floor.

How much data center capacity is planned in the US?

318.2 GW of planned or under construction capacity is on record across 55 states, counting only sites where a megawatt figure appears in a permit, filing or named report.

How many data centers are facing opposition or lawsuits?

355 sites carry a documented reception of contested, opposed or in litigation. The full list, by state, is on the contested sites page.

Where does the data come from and can I use it?

The base is Compute Atlas version 1.32.0, an open survey under CC BY 4.0, joined to our case files and corrected where we have read the documents. The whole table is downloadable as CSV and JSON under the same license, with citation formats on the data page.
