How the community has taken it
Reception is a sourced signal, not an editorial judgment: contested means active public debate is on record, with hearings, petitions, or organized opposition, without litigation.
The City of Reno published a standing FAQ for this project specifically because of 'increased public inquiries', covering noise, construction hours, notification, generator emissions and power-demand growth. Conditions of approval require a 15-ft acoustically absorptive barrier around all rooftop chillers to hold equipment noise to ~43 dBA at the property line against a 53 dBA nighttime ambient.
Power and water
City of Reno's project FAQ describes rooftop chillers and a glycol-based cooling circuit (propylene glycol, with ethylene glycol in some designs), i.e. a recirculating circuit rejecting heat to air rather than an evaporative tower. TMRPA puts the site at roughly 0.29 acre-feet per MW; Nevada LCB puts expected use at approximately 651,000 gallons a year. A cooling-system change was reviewed at building-permit stage with TMWA confirming no significant increase in water demand.
Notes on the record
CENTRA's own facility page advertises 4.4 MW available in Q4 2026, liquid-cooling-enabled to 150 kW per cabinet, air-cooled chillers and a target PUE of 1.35 or better. Capacity figures in circulation conflict (3 MW ramping to 6.67 MW as presented to the Planning Commission in January 2025, versus 12 MW advertised later), so no capacityMw value is asserted here. Site is split-zoned Industrial/General Commercial and not adjacent to residentially zoned land, which is why Reno's residential property-line noise standard does not apply.
What the record does not establish, and the document that would
In every fight on our tracker the decisive fact came out of a public records request. These are the requests for this site.
- Power capacity in megawatts
- Tax abatements or other public subsidy
- Permanent jobs promised
- Land area
- Which utility serves it
Which document closes each gap
- Power capacity in megawatts
- The utility's large load service agreement, the interconnection request in the grid operator's queue, or the electrical site plan in the permit file.
- Tax abatements or other public subsidy
- The abatement, PILOT, or development agreement approved by the county, city, or development authority, and the state's data center sales tax exemption certificate if one was issued.
- Permanent jobs promised
- The economic development application or incentive agreement, which usually states a job commitment and a clawback.
- Land area
- The rezoning application, the plat, or the deed recorded with the county.
- Which utility serves it
- The electric service agreement or the utility's filing with the state public utility commission.

Distances are between recorded coordinates, many of which are a city or county centroid, so treat them as approximate. Cumulative load on one utility and one aquifer is the question a planning commission rarely asks.
