Notes on the record
Former Mike Mansfield Advanced Technology Center (MSE Technologies) campus at Basin Creek TEDD south of Butte. CryptoWatt LLC (subsidiary of The Burrell Group) launched bitcoin mining here in 2018; the site was later acquired/rebranded and now operates as Atlas Power (already the named operator by a Dec 2022 equipment-supplier lawsuit against BlockFills). Atlas mines crypto (ASIC/bitcoin, later pivoted partly to GPU/Ethereum) and offers ML/data-processing hosting. Reported capacity figures conflict across sources (permitted ~75MW; one listing shows 150MW; actual draw reported as low as 25MW during the ETH pivot) so capacity is left unset here pending a primary-source figure I could personally verify. NorthWestern Energy has agreed to supply Atlas 75MW of grid power beginning 2026 with a further ~75MW expected within 3-5 years (Datacenter Dynamics). A related 1,600-acre Basin Creek Solar Project expansion (intended to help power the site) was denied by the Butte Zoning Board in the face of strong public opposition.
