Opened 2020 as one of Iowa's first bitcoin mines (~5.6-7MW, ~1,700 mining computers per company materials and GEM.wiki), powered by a mix of surplus wind and grid power via Grundy County Rural Electric Cooperative; consumed more electricity than the town of Grundy Center's residential customers combined. Destroyed by fire on 2025-01-09 (structure fully vented/burned before crews arrived per Grundy County Emergency Management Coordinator, quoted in The Gazette); MiningStore could not be reached for comment on rebuild plans at the time, and no primary-source confirmation of a rebuild/reopening was found this pass (2026-08). MiningStore's own site still advertises 11 total Iowa facilities (62.5MW combined) but names no city/county for any site except this one, and does not clarify whether the Grundy Center site is among the 11 currently listed as live, see held item on the other 10 unnamed sites.
