Notes on the record

RPI describes a 22,000 sq ft facility with a 4,500 sq ft machine room at the Rensselaer Technology Park. It hosts the AiMOS supercomputer (14 racks, 252 nodes, 1,512 NVIDIA V100 GPUs), an AiMOSx GPU cluster, Xeon and EPYC clusters, and 11 PB of storage. AiMOS also serves as the test bed for the NYS-IBM Research AI Hardware Center. the AI use classification is mixed_use because AI hardware runs alongside co-equal general HPC clusters. The center originated as a $100M RPI-IBM-New York State collaboration. No power figure is published. Coordinates are the Wikipedia point (42°40′50″N 73°41′50″W). It is in the same technology park as, but distinct from, metlife-north-greenbush-ny (500 Jordan Road).

In every fight on our tracker the decisive fact came out of a public records request. These are the requests for this site.

  • Power capacity in megawatts
  • Cooling method and water use
  • Tax abatements or other public subsidy
  • Permanent jobs promised

Power capacity in megawatts
The utility's large load service agreement, the interconnection request in the grid operator's queue, or the electrical site plan in the permit file.
Cooling method and water use
The water service agreement, any groundwater appropriation permit, and the mechanical narrative in the site plan.
Tax abatements or other public subsidy
The abatement, PILOT, or development agreement approved by the county, city, or development authority, and the state's data center sales tax exemption certificate if one was issued.
