Opposition and litigation at this site

Nothing on record as of October 2, 2026. No lawsuit, organized opposition, or contested hearing over University of Florida Data Center (East Campus, HiPerGator) in Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida appears in the sources this registry tracks. That is an absence in our sources rather than a finding that none exists, and local opposition often predates any coverage a national dataset would pick up.

If you live near this site and something is happening that this page does not show, that is worth telling us. Send us the document and it goes in the record with the source attached. For sites where opposition is already established, see every contested site we track.

A new status, a permit, a reception finding, or a lawsuit. Nothing else, ever.

Notes on the record

The Alligator reports that HiPerGator is housed in the UF Data Center on East Campus. Whiting-Turner describes 10,000 sq ft of computing space, split between a Tier 3 data center and 5,000 sq ft of data center research space, plus 4,400 sq ft of standby administrative space. The building has 2.5 MW of generator capacity and an on-site central utility plant. UF's Board of Trustees approved a $24M HiPerGator upgrade in December 2024; the system costs about $6M a year to operate. That $24M is a hardware upgrade, not facility investment. Classed as mixed_use because the building also hosts general enterprise and research computing alongside the NVIDIA AI supercomputer. The building's exact street address is not confirmed, so coordinates are the East Campus centroid and approximate.
