Marathon Digital (in a joint venture with plant owner Beowulf Energy) ran a 20-acre, 30,000+ Antminer S19 bitcoin-mining data center (up to ~57MW) behind-the-meter at the coal-fired Hardin Generating Station (119MW) from 2020. Marathon announced its exit in April 2022 to pursue carbon-neutral sites, leaving its infrastructure in place 'so another miner can come in.' As of the most recent reporting found (Daily Montanan, Nov 2025), the Big Horn Data Hub is still 'not currently operating,' though Beowulf Electricity & Data has stated it intends to expand/redevelop the site and local officials have expressed support. No confirmed new bitcoin-mining tenant/operator was found as of this check -- logged as cancelled (former operation ended) per the tracker's no-decommissioned-status convention; capacity omitted since nothing is currently producing. Note: a data-center aggregator (baxtel.com) attributes this site to 'TeraWulf,' but TeraWulf's own SEC 10-K lists only its Lake Mariner (NY) facility and a since-divested Nautilus JV stake (PA) -- no Montana facility appears in TeraWulf's own filings, so that attribution is treated as an unverified aggregator error, not used here.
